Abstract

Thermal decomposition behavior of edible oils in different atmospheres

Author(s): Rajeev Bagoria, Sanjiv Arora* and Mahender Kumar

A comparative study has been made on the thermal decomposition behavior of edible vegetable oils with/without antioxidant in air and inert atmospheres using dynamic thermogravimetric (TG) technique. The thermogravimetric profile indicates that the decomposition occurs in three and single steps in air and inert atmospheres, respectively. It is found that the decomposition behavior of edible oils depends a lot on the atmosphere used in TG analysis.
