1,8 - Dioxo-octahydroxanthene were efficiently prepared by a recyclable carboxyl-functionalized [cmmim] [BF4] Task Specific Ionic Liquid [TSIL] in aqueous media in high yield and the ionic liquid can be recycled at least 6 times without significant loss of activity.
