The present study aimed to determine the relationship of self-esteem with jealousy in individual athletes, team athletes and neurotic patients of Behbahan province in Iran. The present research adopts a descriptive-correlational research, its data were collected using questionnaire and it was carried out as a field study. For collecting the information, the Rosenberg’s self-esteem inventory and jealousy questionnaire were used based on the Islamic resources. Thisresearch population consisted of all of the athletes and neurotic patients of Behbahan province. Among this population, there were 50 individual athletes, 50 team athletes and 50 neurotic patients as the sample. Cronbach Alpha formula, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression were used to analyze the data; and the level of significance was considered to be α=0.05 for all hypotheses. The research results showed that there is a significant negative correlation between self-esteem and all of the components of jealousy among the mentioned groups. Finally, the final results showed that the regression of the prediction of examinees was from the significant dimensions of jealousy; because jealousy can negatively and significantly predict the examinees’ self-esteem; in such cases including sports, especially team sports, it is recommended to use the forgiveness of the jealous individual to the individual who is exposed to jealousy and to other individuals, and also to use awareness of the harmful effects of jealousy in order to reduce the amount of jealousy; which results in the improvement of selfesteem and mental health of individuals and society.
