Abstract

Synthesis, characterization, antibacterial, antifungal evaluation of linoleic acid derivatives

Author(s): Archana Kapoor, Dina Nath Mishra and Balasubramanian Narasimhan

In this study, a series of linoleic acid derivatives were synthesized and screened for the invitro antimicrobial activity against a panel of three Gram positive bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus subtilis, two Gram negative bacteria: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and two fungal strain: Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger respectively. Compound LA09(9Z, 12Z-butyl octadeca-9,12-dienate) was found to be consistently effective against all the strains. The H1NMR and IR spectra were found to be in accord with assigned structures.
