A series of benzo-indolylidene acetohydrazides were synthesized by condensation of 2-chloro-N-
[2-oxo-1,2-dihydro-3H-benzo[g]indol-3-ylidene]-acetohydrazide with various amines and tested
for their antibacterial activities against various Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and
antifungal activity against the fungus Candida albicans and yeast. The synthesized compounds
6a-6f was characterized by spectral data (IR, NMR and mass) and elemental analysis. All
compounds were screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activity by Cup-plate method
(disc method). The Compounds 6e and 6f, showed considerable enhanced antibacterial activity
against all microorganisms. Microbiological results indicated that the synthesized compounds
possessed a broad spectrum of activity against the tested microorganisms.
