Abstract

Synthesis and evaluation of 2-aryl substituted benzimidazole derivatives bearing 1,3,4-oxadiazole nucleus for antimicrobial activity

Author(s): Archana Kapoor and Naiya Dhiman

In the present study, a series of benzimidazole derivatives bearing 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole nucleus (5a-5h) were synthesized and screened for the in vitro antimicrobial activity against a panel of two Gram positive bacteria: Staphylococcus epidermidis, Bacillus subtilis, two Gram negative bacteria: Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and two fungal strain: Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger respectively. Compounds (5e-5h) had shown good antibacterial activity. Compound (5b) exhibited equipotent activity against fungal strain A. niger in comparison to standard drug. The H1NMR and IR spectra were found to be in accord with assigned structures.
