Abstract

Symptomlogical and biochemical studies on Sunflower Necrosis Disease in Sunflower plants in Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh

Author(s): G. Narasimha

The main aim the present study is to observe the symptoms and abnormal properties caused by sunflower necrosis virus in infected sunflower plants, Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, India. Sunflower necrosis virus disease caused by a strain of Tobacco Streak Virus (TSV) genus Ilarvirus group belongs to Bromoviridae family. It creates epiphytotics in many sunflower plants. In this study, Mosaic, Chlorotic Ring, Necrotic Ring, Leaf Necrosis, Stem Necrosis, and Plant Stunting in TSV infected plants. The Chlorophyll and sugar contents were decreased in leaves of virus infected leaves. Where as higher protein content was observed than the healthy leaves. The local lesions were observed in Cow pea. The virus infected leaves reacts with TSV-antiserum in wells was confirmed by ELISA test by showing a formation of yellow color.
