Furanosesquiterpenoids, abundantly available in secondary plant metabolites show inspiring biological activities and some of them are utilized as pharmaceuticals. The aim of the present study was structural elucidation and stereochemical assignments of furanosesquiterpenoids form a new source viz. Himalayan Lauraceae. Compounds 1- 5 were isolated from the essential oils of two Lauraceae species and their structures were unambiguously assigned by IR, EI-MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, DEPT, 1H-1H-COSY, HMQC, HMBC and NOE techniques. Thermal rearrangement was noticed between furanogermacranes and furanoelemanes. Though, gas chromatographic analysis revealed some ambiguous observations due to heat sensitive compounds in plant extracts yet thermal rearrangements would eventually lead to the discovery of new skeletons of biological importance.
