Abstract

Sensitization of photoelectrochemical solar cells with a natural dye extracted from Cocos nucifera L.: Arecaceae fiber

Author(s): Aduloju K. A.

The dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) were assembled by using natural dyes extracted from the fleshy-shell of ripped coconut fruit as sensitizer. Photovoltaic parameters such as short circuit current density Jsc, open circuit voltage Voc, fill factor FF, and overall conversion efficiency η for the fabricated cells were determined under 100 mW/cm2 illumination. Among the examined cells , chemically purified extract used as sensitizer gave a conversion efficiency of 0.21%. Therefore, experiments of this nature with natural pigments is of great value in elucidating the role of chemical-purifications in natural DSSCs sensitizers.
