Abstract

Pantoeaeucrina(Cf 7) a novel plant growth promoting rhizobacterium from India

Author(s): Malleswari. D and Bagyanarayana. G

The genus Pantoea contains species, which are primarily known as plant-associated or phytopathogenic bacteria, but some have also been linked with human infections. The diversity of Pantoeastrains and their possible association with hosts and disease remain poorly known, and identification of Pantoeaspecies is difficult. We isolated, identified and characterized Pantoeaeucrinastrain from botanical garden soil of Osmania University, Hyderabad, India. Pantoeaeucrina was tested for PGP (Plant growth promoting activities) like ammonia (NH3), indole acetic acid (IAA), HCN production and phosphate solubilization. The isolate showed maximum plant growth promotion activities and further it was identified as Pantoeaeucrinaon the basis of morphological, biochemical and molecular methods(16S rRNA gene sequencing). Strain Cf 7 induced plant growth promoting hormones indole acetic acid, phosphate solubilization and ammonia production resulting in enhanced plant growth.Pantoeaeucrina is being reported for the first time exhibiting plant growth promoting activity.
