Amino acid family crystals exhibit excellent nonlinear optical and electrooptical properties. Single crystals of pure, Cu2+and Mg2+ doped L-alaninium maleate (LAlM) were grown successfully by slow evaporation technique The growth conditions of the crystals are studied and the grown crystals are confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction studies. The Second Harmonic Generation in the samples are confirmed by the Kurtz powder technique. The crystals are characterized by FTIR, optical absorption and photoconductivity studies
