Rapid spreadingof medical sciences and rising costs of medical care has been declared the necessity of medical
research activities for evidence-based and cost effective decisions and better medical procedures. The present study
was designed to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice ofGuilan University of Medical Sciences students. This
descriptive - cross sectional study were performed on students in all fields of Guilan University of Medical Sciences
entrance 2002 to 2010 was performed in 2013. The data was collected by a questionnaire consists of four parts and
50 questions which distributed randomly among students. Finally, data were entered in SPSS version 19 and
analyzed statistically. 463 students responded to the questions of which 306 cases (66.4%) were female. The mean
age of participants was 21.95 ± 2.72 years. The majority of them were medical students (n= 174, 37.8%). Students'
skills in using research methods were considered moderate. The majority of students had no positive attitude
towards research activities. Research performance of students was evaluated weak. This study showed that the
majority of student’s capabilities and insight to the research activities are weak. It is recommended to improve
student performance on knowledge and activity of students towards research, planning and more investment
performed.
