Abstract

Investigation on the electropolymerization of polypyrrole nanofibers as corrosion protection for stainless steel 316

Author(s): Rawaa Abbas Mohammed and Abdulkareem Mohammede Ali Alsammarraie

The research focuses on getting thin and homogeneous electropolymeriztion procedure of pyrrole monomer, and study the possibility of improving the corrosion resistance in different Medias ; saline water ( 3.5% NaCl) , acidic media (1M H30 , 40 and 50 oC. The SEM and AFM images of PPy films revealed a nanofiber like structure with diameter ranged between 20 and 120 nm, the thicknesses were measured by gravimetric and special AFM scans, they showed values between 1300 to 1450 nm.The protection effectiveness of PPy coated specimens showed remarkable degree of enhancement when examined by Tafel extrapolation method, also the effect of increasing temperature presented as thermodynamic and kinetics parameters, Ea, ΔHa, ΔSa ,and ΔGa were calculated and discussed.
