Abstract

Investigation on fatty acids profile in sixteen ecotypes of Iranian ox tongue flower (Echium amoenum Fisch & Mey.)

Author(s): N. hosseinpour azad

In this research two main biochemical characters such as total oil percent and fatty acids composition of Iranian Echiumamoenum seeds which collected from these natural habitat in marginal altitudes of Caspian sea were considered. Oil extraction and identification of fatty acids performed by soxhelt systems and gass chromatography (GC).then the data compared statistically for each ecotypes. Total average seed oil was (18.44±0.40%). Also 8 types of fatty acids such as Palmitic, Stearic, Oleic, Soxenic, Linileic, Alphalinolenic, Gamalinolenic and Stearidonic acids were detected by GC. Soxcenic acid with least percent (0.2-0.4) and Alphalinolenic with in highest amount (46-48%) was significant seed oil composition in studied ecotyps. Regard to dietries cost of essential fatty acids, seed oil content in Echiumamoenum, is valuable to use in essential fatty acids complementaries such as omega3 and omega6. Likewise the data is valuable for selecting of suitable breeding methods to increase fatty acids content, as also it can be utilizable in plant breeding programs for improve quality of seed oil fatty acids composition traits in Iranian ox tongue flower.
