In the course of the survey of the useful plants of Nepal, 9 species of Swertia have been documented with their indigenous uses from the study areas (various villages and adjoining areas of Rasuwa, Sindhupalchok, Dolakha, Makwanpur, Kathmandu, and Lalitpur Districts in Central Development Region of Nepal). Local people have remarkable detailed knowledge of species identity, characteristics and their specific. At present, these useful plants and their habitats are under serious threat due to anthropogenic pressure. In this paper, an attempt has been made to enumerate these plants and their parts used as raw drugs and also to recommend some strategic agenda for sustainable management of the species.
