Majoon-e-Dabeed-ul-Ward is a unani formulation which has strong anti-oxidant, anti- inflammatory and hepatoprotective effects. Besides acting as an efficient liver tonic, it also relieves uteral inflammation and helps in improving malfunctioning of digestive system. The present study was conducted to evaluate the content of heavy metals in this drug and its effect on the proliferation and migration of cancerous cell lines. We demonstrate the antiproliferative ability of this drug in four different cell lines- C6 (Rat glial cells), MCF (Human mammary carcinoma cells), T47D (Human ductal breast epithelial tumor cell line) and A549 (Human lung adenocarcinoma epithelial cell line), with the highest anti-proliferative activity in C6 cells. Moreover, this drug was seen to be effective in inhibiting the migration of C6 cells. Also, the content of heavy metals (lead, cobalt and cadmium) and ash were found to be within the safe limits approved by WHO.
