Abstract

Growth, spectroscopic, thermal and hardness studies of urea thiourea zinc iodide crystal as potential NLO material

Author(s): S. Kumararaman*, I. Cicili Ignatius, T. Thaila, T. Raja, K. Selvaraju

Single crystals of a new semi-organic non linear optical (NLO) material, urea thiourea zinc iodide (UTZI) have been grown by slow evaporation technique. The unit cell parameters were evaluated by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The vibrational frequencies of various functional groups in the grown crystals have been derived by FTIR analysis. The thermal and UV-Vis studies were performed to know the thermal and optical behaviour. The mechanical behaviour of the grown crystals was studied using Vicker’s Microhardness tester. The NLO property of the grown crystals was confirmed by Kurtz powder SHG method.
