Microwave assisted ring opening of commercially available epoxidized soybean oil (ESBO) under solvent-free condition is reported. ESBO converted to the corresponded ring opened compounds namely, soybean polyols. Diethanolamine (DEA) was used as the nucleophiles in combination with catalytic amount of ZnCl2 as a Lewis acid and the synthesized products were characterized using spectroscopy methods. The results showed the performance of the method in epoxy group ring opening reaction under controllable conditions at the short reaction time.
