The study examined concentrations of some heavy metals in ground water close to refuse dumpsites in Rumuolumeni Community in Port Harcourt, Niger Delta, Nigeria. Ground water samples were collected for a period of four months in three different boreholes in designated stations and analyzed for Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Hg and Cr. Station 1 is Lecturers quarters of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education Port, Harcourt, station 2 is Eagle cement, while station 3 is Akar road junction. The mean values of heavy metals obtained were, 0.192 mgl-1, 0.15mgl1, 0.071mgl-1, 0.384mgl-1, 0.001mgl-1, 0.001mgl-1, 0.001 mgl-1, 0.126mgl-1, respectively for Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Hg and Cr, with Zn having the highest value, while Cd and Hg having the least values. The order of heavy metal concentration is Zn> Fe> Cr>Pb> Cu> Cd, Hg. Mean values of heavy metals obtained are below W.H.O and SON maximum permissible limit for drinking water except for Zn. However, Cr value is slightly above permissible limit of SON. This suggest that the water from these boreholes are suitable for use, more also, the location of the refuse dumpsite close to these residential area does not contaminate the ground water
