Abstract

Dyeing application of quinazolinone based heterocyclic monoazo acid dyes

Author(s): Nikhil M. Parekh* and Snehal R. Lokhandwala

New 3-(4-aminophenyl)-7-nitro-2-phenylquinazolin-4(3H)-one based acid quinazolinone dyes have been synthesized by reaction between nitroanthranilic acid and benzoyl chloride which on further reaction with p-phenylenedi amine to give 3-(4-amino phenyl)-7-nitro-2-phenyl quinazolin-4(3H)-one. This 3-(4-amino phenyl)-7-nitro-2 phenyl quinazolin-4(3H)-one on diazotization and coupling with various naphthalene base acid components gives quinazolinone based acid azo dyes. These dyes give purple, red, orange and brown shades. All the reactive dyes have been characterized by their percentage yield, UV–VIS spectroscopy, elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, 1H NMR spectroscopy and dyeing performance on silk, wool and cotton fibers. The percentage dye bath exhaustion on different fibers has been found to be reasonably good and acceptable. All the dyes gave moderate to very good fastness properties on each fiber. Further, the dyed fibers have moderate to very good fastness properties to light, good to excellent for washing and good to excellent for rubbing.
