A seismic refraction survey has been conducted at the Ebonyi State University main campus with the objective of determining the lithostratigraphy of the area. The study area is located within the Abakaliki anticlinorium whose longitudinal and latitudinal ranges are 80 5′E - 80 10′E and 60 15′ N – 60 20′ N respectively. The major seismic equipment employed was the MOD S79 digital type signal enhancement seismcgraph. Only compressional waves were used. Three traverses were chosen. The results show that the average p- wave velocities in the study area for the first three layers from the surface of the earth are 998m/s, 1922m/s and 3008 m/s. The average thicknesses for the first two layers are 2.4m and 4.8m. The results indicate that the first three layers from the earth’s surface in the study area are shale, clay and carboniferous sediments. Hence the lithostratigraphy of Ebonyi State University main campus from the oldest sediment to the youngest for the depth of the subsurface mapped consists of carboniferous sediments, clay and shale respectively.
