In the present study, some ester and amide derivatives (1-23) of para-amino benzoic acid were synthesized. All the compounds were physicochemically characterized and evaluated for antimicrobial activity against Gram positive bacteria - Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Gram negative bacteria - Salmonella enterica, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungal strain Candida albicans by agar well plate method for zone of inhibition respectively. The results of activity revealed the effectiveness of different esters and amide derivatives as antibacterial as well as antifungal agents and also indicated that different structural requirements are essential for a compound to be selected as antimicrobial agent. The structure of all the synthesized derivatives was found to be in agreement with their spectral data.
