Abstract

Fungal infection is a major problem for storage of groundnuts and it affects its quality. Irradiation has well known effects on microbes and it is the best solution for fungal infection and storage. This study was designed to determine the fungal activity of infected groundnut kernels (Arachis hypogaea L.) on irradiated and nonirradiated samples. TMV7 variety of groundnut kernels was selected for study and stored in the incubator at four different temperatures (30, 35, 40, 45°c).The fungal enumeration was carried out at different dilutions. The groundnuts were exposed to electron beam irradiation (EB) at 800Gy. The fungal count was estimated before and after irradiation. The results indicated that irradiation has decreased the fungal count to a large extent.
