Abstract

A brief discussion over Physical fitness

Author(s): Emma Johnson

Traditional definitions of physical fitness have included terminology that spans a wide variety of functional abilities when operationalized. These definitions, on the other hand, do not directly allude to the health benefits of physical activity. The current state of knowledge in exercise science, as well as society's perceptions of physical fitness, suggest that a definition of physical fitness should emphasise health-related components of fitness. It is proposed that the primary concern of the physical education profession be the promotion of health-related physical fitness, which is defined as a state characterised by (a) the ability to perform daily activities with vigour, and (b) the demonstration of traits and capacities associated with a low risk of developing hypokinetic diseases prematurely (i.e., those associated with physical inactivity).
